The Veteran Voices Poetry Project (Call for Submissions)

Calling all US Veteran poets: if you’ve ever thought of seeing your poem(s) in print, Santos Press is accepting original poems written by Veterans for inclusion in our 2027 inaugural anthology. There is no cost to submit or to be published and writers retain all rights to their work. Submission deadline: 15 January 2027.

Purpose: The Veteran Voices anthology’s purpose is to publish crafted, intentional poetry written by U.S. Veterans. Poems are not limited to being in uniform or the effects thereof. They could be on any subject (childhood, identity, loss, love, memory, nature, faith, humor, or the quiet moments that shape a life). The goal is to showcase and promote the literary talents of the Veterans whose poems are chosen to be included in the anthology.

Promoting Veteran Literary Talents

Literary fellowships and grants support writers by providing funding, recognition, and time to develop their work. The funds awarded can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands such as the Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship whose grants offer up to $78,000. Many fellowships and grants prioritize emerging voices, underrepresented communities, and writers whose work contributes to cultural understanding. Contributors to anthologies or literary journals often use published pieces to support their application portfolios. Santos Press supports Veterans’ literary works by providing first publication through the Veteran Voices anthology.
